Total miles: 802.
Last night when we got to the shelter we were the first ones there. Soon Arrowhead showed up, followed by The Brothers. As we were settling into the sleeping bags three hikers arrived that we had not met, Crazy Legs, Mousetrap, and Shadow Wolf.
This morning at about 4:30 Johnny Blaze and Aspen pulled in after competing their 26 mile night hike. Counting everyone we had 12 thru hikers at one shelter. We thought that qualified as a convention.
We left this morning at 5:45. We almost left Lily there in all the hubbub. She was confused about where we were and I had to walk back to the shelter to get her.
It was a foggy misty morning of hiking with a big hill first thing. At the top of the hill we met an older man. As it turned out it was a Grandpa hiking with his 2 high school age grandsons. Pretty cool!
We saw the memorial for a small boy lost on the mountain.
The big find of the day was an orange salamander. We found several others of varying sizes.
We were supposed to be picked up by the Blue Dog Art Cafe owner but she couldn't arrange a driver so we hitched a ride into town. We got picked up by Kim (mom) and Brendon (son). They were so nice. They drove us to the Blue Dog to get Mike's shoe package from REI and then to the post office to mail back the defective ones.
They then brought us to the motel. We showered and ordered Domino's pizza. It seems as though pizza is our town food of choice. We never get tired of it.
We are headed to the grocery store with Trail Angel Kim. We were so lucky today!

That's a ton of thru hikers. You haven't seen that many since Tennessee, have you? You guys are way ahead of the huge mob of thru hikers. You may have suffered in the Tennessee and the Smokies but you did miss the shelters with 20+ wet smelly people in them. (Some of those people are still having icy conditions, melting ice falling on them, etc.)
You guys are really racking up the miles! I see a pattern developing - walk, sleep, motel, PIZZA, resupply, and an occasional trail angel.
Some pretty interesting trail names you've encountered. It seems everyone has one but you guys. I think Paws-N-Boots might fit.
What a cute little salamander, and beautiful butterflies. I agree with Steve -- time for trail names. If Ralph and I had been hiking for as many days as you have in the weather you have endured, I'm sure we would have names for each other by now, but they might not be nice.
