We got up early and were on the trail at 5:45. We knew today was going to be hot and that we had some big climbs.
We saw the largest oak tree on the southern AT, the Keiffer Oak. It was truly majestic!

We also saw our first wildflowers.

We had lunch at the Niday Shelter. It was very deluxe with stairs.
After lunch we headed downhill and had our first great swim in the river.
Then it was a grueling uphill in the hot afternoon.

We saw the Audie Murphy Memorial.

The dogs had a great swim at the top of the ridge in a frog pond.

We were happy to reach the Pickle Branch Shelter. And stop for the night. We are all worn out.
