We left at 6:35 today hoping for better weather and big miles. The weather was sunny on our ascent of Whitetop Mountain.

We stopped at Buzzard Rock for a quick snack.

It got foggy on our climb up Mt Rogers. Down from the top we walked through Grayson Highlands State Park. It was open and very rocky with soggy snow patches and lots of water in the trail.
The wind blew like a hurricane. Sometimes we lost our balance because the gusts were so strong.
I was disappointed. The weather was so bad as I was hoping to see some of the wild ponies. We finally heard some whinnying as we left the park and caught a glimpse of one pony.
Tonight we are tenting at Old Orchard Shelter as it is very small older shelter with lots of cracks between the logs.

So much for better weather in Virginia. Ugh! The good news is you have now hiked the equivalent of the entire Colorado Trail (Denver to Durango ~500 miles)--Congratulations! Kathleen and Earl Denver, CO.
