The Truck Stop

Day 35 Wednesday April 3
Miles hiked: 18
Total miles: 548.5
Number of hikers we saw: 0

We left the Shelter this morning at 6:45. We saw a beautiful pink sunrise.

The first leg of our trip today was 12 miles into Atkins, VA to resupply. It was a sunny but chilly morning. The dogs got to be pack free like other resupply days. They enjoyed the freedom. They have learned to power nap during rest breaks.

We past the old Lindawood schoolhouse that was built in 1894.

Just as we were about to cross the road to the convenience store that turned out to be a truck stop, Mike found some trail magic cooling in the creek.

We had to find enough food at the truck stop to get us 3 days up the trail. That was a hard task for a member of the food police. I cringed and bought pop tarts, Little Debbie cinnamon rolls, mashed potatoes, and luckily for us, one pound of string cheese.

We downed Klondike bars and a coke while the dogs each ate a can of dog food.

Right out of town, we visited the Davis Cemetery.

While we were there, two ospreys flew over. We were wondering if one of the pilots might have been our neighbors' son who is stationed in North Carolina.

We ordered our next pairs of shoes from REI. We will get them in Pearisburg.

We climbed 6 miles out of town and are tent camping at the Crawfish Trail junction. It was a great day today.

Love the pic of the dogs power napping. I hope there was more than one beer in the Trail Magic! Glad to hear you guys had a great day.

What about Honey Buns? Have you indulged in Honey Buns? If so, do you like them?

I think there is an Amish organic grocery in one of the upcoming towns. The food police will like that.
