Winter in Spring

Day 22 Thursday March 21
Miles we hiked: 16.8
Total miles: 341.5
Number of hikers we saw: 1

We started today with a pancakes and eggs breakfast! Yum!

After breakfast Bobby drove us back to the top of Big Bald to start our hike where we left off yesterday. It was 8:15 when we started and 7 degrees. The wind was howling and we were wearing all of our gear!

We hiked in the snow all day until we started the descent into Erwin, TN. We had a few nice views of the Nolichucky River below us.

We are staying in a tiny cabin at Uncle Johnny's Hostel. We had Little Ceasar's cheese pizza for our dinner tonight. Now we are relaxing watching Dances with Wolves.

7 degrees? Yikes! What happened to spring? Spring has arrived in Missoula...a few flowers, some sunshine, then snow, wind, rain, muddy dogs...lots of fun. Happy birthday to one of you!

Yes, Happy Birthday!!

I was reading on trail journals and one of the hikers behind you said that they were the SECOND group to stay at Mother Marion's which sounds like you guys were the first ones to stay. You're breaking the trail in more ways than one.

Punxsutawney Phil really blew it this year. He had predicted an early spring. He's now on several most wanted lists from Florida to Maine.
