Day 3
Miles today: 11.5
Total miles: 43.2
Number of hikers we saw: 19
Some hikers are college students out on backpack trips for spring break.
We slept through a very windy, snowing night at Neels Gap. Needless to say, we got a slow start 10:00. We were loaded down with our new food supply. We sure aren't eating what we planned at home. I guess our hunger hasn't kicked in yet, but Mike is starting to talk about pizza.
The hike today had a steep climb with many switchbacks to the top of Wildcat Mountain at 3561. We walked in snow with blowing frost crystals most of the day. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
We are staying in our first shelter tonight, Low Gap Shelter with 6 of us all lined up! We should be close friends by morning. We celebrated Alec's 23rd birthday at dinner tonight. We put a match in a chocolate bar and sang to him. He said it was the most inspiring way he has celebrated a birthday, out hiking the AT.
Sorry no pictures today. It was too wet to get the camera out.
Another great day hiking the AT.

Only 3 days and already thinking of pizza? It's going to be a long trip! Ha!
This is fun...it's like hiking the AT from the comfort of our living room! Maybe you can wander off the trail one day and have a pizza for dinner.
