We hit the snowy trail at 8:30. It was 21 degrees this morning. After snowing all night there was about5 inches of new snow.
The trail was difficult only because the snow has weighted down all of the rhododendron bushes and we had to get low to go under them or try to knock the snow off of them first. Needless to say, we got snow down our necks more often than needed.
We ate a really fast lunch at Moreland Shelter and then trudged on. Right after lunch we saw our only hiker, a southbound section hiker.
We said goodbye to Firefeet and Corbett at the Dennis Cove Rd. they headed to Kincora Hostel and we headed to the dog friendly Black Bear Resort.
We are staying in this cute little cabin. Sara and Lily are already asleep.
Travis just came in off the trail. He may stay with us.

I've been following AT hikers on Trail Journals and it's obvious everyone is having a very difficult time. Some of the new hikers are hitting NC and the Smokies and just can't get anywhere because of the weather. Another thing is that the shelters, hostels, and local hotels are full.
One person estimated that 25% had already dropped out and gone home because of the late winter.
I worried about you guys hiking in 35 degree weather with constant rain, not the 20s with serious wind gusts and blowing snow.
Looks like our temps are gradually creeping up getting warmer. That's what I am voting for you guys.
It won't be long and you'll be cursing the hot dry weather! ;-)
