We got up at 5:00 this morning thinking that it would be a very warm day again today. The wind had come up in the night and it blew like a hurricane all day. It was so bad that we were watching out in case trees would be blown over.
We walked with flashlights for the first 75 minutes. The trail led out of town along the French Broad River. Then it went up the hill climbing about 2250 feet
It was a big climbing day. We climbed about 5500 feet in all. We are staying at Little Laurel Shelter. It started to rain as we got close. There were rumbles of thunder in the distance. It poured after we pulled into the shelter to find a group of 10 University of Minnesota-Duluth students on a spring break backpack trip.

Saw the nasty weather headed your way & was wondering what it would be like on the mountain top. Atlanta had tornado warnings. Glad you are safe. How are the dogs doing?
