The wind howled all night dropping ice crystals from the trees on the shelters metal roof.
We left at 7:53 hiking mostly uphill and into the snow and ice. The fog rolled in so there was no visibility. We climbed Clingman's Dome the highest point on the AT. We walked up the tower to say that we had!

It was then a slippery slow descent. We are staying at Mt Collins Shelter. It is cold with blowing snow.

Winter is trying to hang on here in Maryland too. It's a good excuse to keep the evening fires in the fireplace going that much longer.
You have now hiked the equivalent of Denver,CO to Cheyenne, WY and back to Denver. Not exactly a walk in the park. We are thinking of you and how happy you will be to see your dogs again; they will be fully rested and ready to hit the trail. Kathleen and Earl
