Day 13

We left our windy camp at the William Brien Memorial Shelter early. We walked some beautiful ridges today and had some great views. Can you make out the New York City skyline in the distance?

Here's the Bear Mountain Memorial from a distance.

Walt Whitman in the park

Right as we got down to the lake from Bear Mountain we ran into two 3rd grade classes on their school trip. Their teachers asked us to talk to the students about hiking the trail. It was fun to be a teacher again. The students asked some really good questions. After the park and zoo, we walked a 0.5 mile bridge across the Hudson River.

We stopped for dinner and shopping at Appalachian Market and then headed the last 0.8 miles to the Graymoor Spiritual Center run by Franciscan monks. We camped on their ball field. A super day. 18 miles
