We got up at 5:00 and actually had a shower! Tess fixed a wonderful breakfast with quiche, yogurt, and very yummy sticky buns! She is spoiling us with all of her wonderful recipes.
Steve drove us back to Harpers Ferry. We left there about 7:25. We started at John Brown's Fort.
We walked along the old canal. On the other side of the trail was the Potomac River. We saw quite a few trains pass by us.
We headed up the hill and the rest of the way was pretty gentle although we had some really rocky sections.
Today we hiked through areas of Civil War history. We saw the place General Reno died in battle south Mountain was also an important area for the troops that would eventually fight at Gettysburg.
We also saw the original Washington Monument built in 1827.
We crossed I-70 and are staying at Pine Knob Shelter. It is a small log shelter. We met Peat and Repeat, a father and son section hiking. Kebbon from Indianapolis is here starting his hike again after getting injured last year. Pappy came in after dinner.
