Over the River

Day 68 May 6
Miles hiked: 22.0
Total miles: 1160.5
Number of hikers we saw: 7

We hit the trail at 5:55. It was a quiet night. Signs at the shelter warned if porcupine activity but they didn't show up. We were grateful for that.

We hiked a quick 4 miles into Duncannon. We were checking our the Quick Mart by the Doyle Hotel. It is your regular convenience store. It was going to be difficult to do a good resupply there. Then a man drive up to get his coffee. He asked if we were thru hikers and then promptly offered to drive us to the grocery store.

He waited while we shopped and then drove us back near the Doyle. Actually it was the back of his apartment building so we could use his garbage. Paul is our trail angel of the day! What a fantastic person!

We hiked out of town which is a long jaunt. We then crossed the bridge over a side river and then it was Across a huge bridge over the Susquehanna River. Part way across we got drive bombed by a pair of peregrine falcons with a best under the bridge.

We climbed out of the river valley and ridge walked for most of the day. We met a thru hiker, Fool, finishing his hike this year. He started last year with his wife on April 1st, so the trail name.

We then met two women starting their section hike. They owned Lily's long lost brother, Beans.

It was unreal how much alike they looked.

We ate dinner at the Peters Mountain Shelter and then hiked on to the gap at PA Route 325. We are camped by a big creek called Clark's Creek. We even took a dip in the creek to get rid of the sweat.
