We left our campsite this morning at 6:30. It was a great place to stay.
We had a climb right away and then the trail was really pretty level for a long ways. We past an old coal mining settlement that was started in 1828. There were piles of coal still there.

We heard lots of distant gun fire today and wondered if there is a military training facility nearby. We saw this huger helicopter.

After crossing under I-81 the trail got really steep and really rocky. We are not amused when the trail leads through a huge pile of rocks along the ridges.
It was a long way into the William Penn Shelter but we were rewarded right before getting here with a box turtle on the trail.

It rained like crazy right after we arrived. We thought we had the shelter to ourselves but two young college guys on an overnight trip pulled on right at 7:30.
