Across the Valley

Day 67 May 5
Miles hiked: 25.5
Total miles: 1038.5
Number of hikers we saw: lots of day hikers

We were on the trail this morning at 5:45. We were excited to cross the Cumberland Valley as it was 15 miles of flat trail!

We passed through the small quaint town of Boiling Springs, PA. This is the Children's Lake.

The ATC Center here was still closed as we got there early.

We passed a very old cemetery. The headstones had dates from the Civil War.

We found some maypops blooming. I call them umbrella plants.

After we crossed the valley we climbed two hills. This is the last one of the day. Walking here we met a family out hiking. They had 3 young children who smothered Lily with pets. She was in heaven!

We are staying at the Cove Mountain Shelter. We set up our tent in the shelter because there was a sign saying that porcupines have been chewing on the shelter. Someone reported a porcupine inside the shelter when they wrote in the log.

Sounds like a truly lovely day. We're in monsoon season in the Southeast. Days and days of heavy rain and wind. I'm so glad you are "up north" away from this front.
